Ruff Times Rescue 2013
This was a year of even more transition for RTR as we managed to rent a farm which allows for a little breathing room. However, the move was very difficult for everyone, especially the dogs. We love our little farm but we are very tired!
Cookie, Georgi and Gracie
RTR was contacted by a family that was very concerned for 3 stray dogs running around on their farm. We went to investigte and saw the condition of Cookie and our concerns grew as well. We delivered food the the family and even flea meds to try and help them. The were fearful and would not approach but after a few weeks they started to trust the family. One of RTR's volunteers was determined to catch them and in fact did just that! We vetted them and she fostered them and before we could even think of adoption, the foster became a permanent home for all three!! Cookie, Georgi and Graci as they are called have been able to remain a big happy family. It was learned from some of the neighboring farms that a lady who was very elderly had Momma dog (Cookie) for many years and she allowed her to have litter after litter of pups. Georgi and Graci were actually 2 of those pups. Sadly, the lady was taken to a nursing home by her family and the dogs were abandoned. God put them in the path of this caring neighbor who contacted us and we are so happy to have saved these beautiful dogs! Georgi was a mother to a litter of 6 pups just before we caught them and their stories are here on our site as well...they are called Waylon, Romeo, Buster, Lola. Dini and Juliet. All are success stories as well:)

Romeo was one of the 6 pups that came from the Farm Dogs we have on our site. These babies spent the first 2 months of thier little lives living under a barn. The 3 Farm Dogs (Cookie, Gracie and Georgi) protected them and even took turns guarding the hole to their little hiding place according to the farms tenants. Once we got them SLAL (another GREAT local rescue) agreed to quarantine them for us so that we could safely take them home. Now they all have great homes and Romeo lives with another of our puppy success stories (Ruby, one of the Webster pups we found being sold onthe side of the road and near death). Ruby and Romeo have a very loving Mom and Dad (who also volunteer for RTR) and they just bought a new house and have a nice fenced yard to play in now..Romeo and Ruby also have a new baby brother (human) and they are VERY protective of him.
Hope aka Lola is another of the 6 farm pups. She is a very sweet girl who found the perfect loving home. She has a sister dog and they play in the fenced back yard together. She ocassionally come to the Farmers Market to say Hi and we are so happy that she does, she also lives within a mile of the rescue so she is not far from home. We miss her and love her!
Waylan was the FIRST of the 6 farm pups to find a home. A neighbor of RTR's spotted him and fell in love the first day we had him. They had adopted our girl Ruby (the Gainesville Mom with the 3 pups). Waylon fit right in and Ruby thought he was HER baby! They moved away and we dont see much of them but we know they are in good hands and wish them the best!
Juliet aka Franzi is another of the 6 Farm Pups. She was lucky enough to find a home with a wonderful family who had 2 other dogs. You can see Franzi making herself right at home on the sofa with them on the first day she arrived there. They were a little put out by her at first but now they are all buds! Once we ran into Franzi after she was all grown up and hard to recognize....we did recognize her though because once you love an animal you never forget them. She has put on some pounds and is definitely being spoiled by her new family!
Buster is pictured here in the very middle but we do not have any updated pics of her. She was another of the Farm Pups and she was the bully! lol She outweighed the other pups by a few punds and she liked to throw her weight around! Our wonderful volunteer who adopted Sadie fell in love with and took Buster for her daughter. Buster lives on a farm with horses and gets to run around and play with her human sisters. We miss Buster but we know she is very happy!

Dini/Houdini aka Peaches was given her name because she was an escape artist. Now her family calls her Peaches. We sadly do not have any updated pics of Dini either but we know that her family loves her. We miss Dini and hope that they will come to visit soon so we can see how she has changed.
Gigi was reported to us by someone who noticed her living outside a building supply in Downtown Clermont. We went and caught her (and it wasn't easy as she was PETRIFIED of a leash and of humans). It was a heartbreaking scene as we feared we may not be able to catch her. We were fortunate enough to get her and she proceeded to go to her fosters house and eat her carpet. We boarded Gigi and she found her confidence while there. She also found her home...one of the boarding facilities employees fell in love and took Gigi home. She is adored in this home and has a life I never dreamed she could have! Gigi lives in Georgia now and they occasionally send pics. We miss you G!
